So to add to my portfolio as of lately i have been working on updating my parents current catering menu...posted below is the inside of the menu...the paper im thinking of using is a brown almost has the feel of a paper bag kind of appearance...im going to see if this paper is going to work or not on monday...if it doesn't work then i'll only have to make a few slight adjustments.

My idea is to put my name on the front of the portfolio box...should i leave the box the way it is and just put my name on it? Web Design Homepage Process

So i did 2 more versions of my homepage which are posted below.

Earlier in the week I was really diggin the second one but the more and more i look at these I think im going to be going with the first one. I think it's a cleaner design to have my name like that verses someone having to turn their head to read my name. Also It gives me more space to give descriptions of my portfolio pieces in the interior pages.

Hey guys! Just finished my leave behind...it will look much better once printed...My original idea for my cover was to do a cut out of my name but my cricut machine doesn't really like smaller fonts as much and since that burgundy really popped on my metallic paper i figured i would just carry that through to my leave behind as well...Before printing all 6 of these at the very end of the semester i will be going back in and changing the updates that im making to my portfolio...I haven't finished my calendar or CD yet so those will be updated but for now here are the spreads for my leave behind! Interior templates for Portfolio page

I really like the idea of playing with the grid...the navigation will take you to a gridded page of whatever category the pieces fall under and they also have the option of viewing all my portfolio pieces in a grid showing all at once. For instance if they click on print it will take you to a grid of all my print pieces and then from there when they click on say for instance my CD then it will take you to a page that has images of my CD along with a description of this particular piece. Also when they "roll over" the category print i will have the type change to the burgundy color that im using throughout my portfolio. So far im really excited where this is going and look forward to continuing to work on this :)

absolutely hate this version...but thought i would post it to show something different

So I've tried to play around with a few things between these designs...ive played around with making a "grid of portfolio pieces" to stand as a homepage image...not sure yet if i would want these to be clicked on to take you to the actual portfolio piece or to stand as basically a preview to my portfolio...Ive also played around with my welcome message slightly...ive changed the "hire me" to tie in the same font that my autograph is in....it actually doesn't look as funky as it originally did...I also played around with the location of my welcome message and i really like the original placement of that welcome message...I also played around with my secondary navigation tabs slightly...I think im really digging have my secondary navigation in simply ALL Garamond...not the combo of Garamond and Windsong. So far my top 3 are: 2nd one (once i change the secondary navigation to ALL Garamond), The 4rth version, and 6th version. But comments are definitely appreciative!! That is all for the night!

So for mine and Alysia's service project we are working on our InterAct poster. From our last critique that we had with our InterAct's clients they liked certain aspects that both me and Alysia had in our seperate posters and were interested in us combining these ideas to work cohesively as one successful poster. One of the aspects that they were interested in, in my poster version was the positive message of the hands you can trust. So Ive made some revisions to those hands a little bit...Ive obtained images from InterAct and placed that collage inside the outline of my hands in which i outlined using one of InterAct's colors...Ive also added more detail to the holding hands to make them actually look like hands. So for portfolio, One of the pieces I've currently been working on is my CD booklet. The original fonts I had used I lost so i replaced the titles and song list page with a font that was very similar to the original one i had. The font that i have for my interior pages is completely different but I actually like it better. I think its a little more legible and really expresses more of the handwritten journal feel that i was going for verses having an "inked" style font. I also added a few imagery to go along with my booklet...Comments Appreciated!!

Hey guys,
So for my current Web Design Class we are partnered up in the class We have the role of experiencing being the client as well as the designer. My client is looking to have a website that has easier navigation for well experienced knitters who are looking to find patterns of items that they would be interested in knitting. Shown below is one of my ideas/sketches for my homepage.

As you can see it will be easier to navigate...if you want to knit different type of hats you will click on the hat image, if gloves you'll click on the gloves image and so on...then from there it will direct to a page of all the available items. So if you click on the hat image the next page will not only list the name of the pattern but it will provide an image of what the final product will look like so you know if you would be interested in knitting that item or not...verses having to flip back and forth between pages. Overall I think I'm off to a good start with my clients webpage.

The start of building my resume

So this is the start to building my new resume. I'm trying to play around with some different layout options. Not sure that I really like this too much right now. The logo that's going to go on my portfolio box will be very similar to how my name and header is in this resume. My name will be like an autograph or signature and then Designs will be in a very modern Block typeface either similar or the same "orator" typeface. My idea is that once I can fill in more experience the page wont look so funny...I'll be able to add in the service project experience along with my internship experience and i think this will fill out that right side of the page that is offering alot of white space currently. As far as layout goes I know that I dont want all my information in a one column centered grid. I'm thinking about playing around with a 2 column grid that is off balance with each other but still works well at the same time :)

So as to a start of my summer I had an interview with a print shop last week. I haven't heard back from them yet but I'm not letting that rain on my parade! Just the fact of having an interview this early in the game makes me proud of myself for my accomplishments. So aside from the interview ive been rather busy.

--Created flyers for L'Academie de Danse announcing the opening of their new location opening.
--Created silhouette of dancer for L'Academie de Danse sign.
--Getting clients business cards printed
--Sold photography piece to point of view gallery
--Designing 2 logos for the assistant pastor of Kenly Missionary Baptist Church
--one for NT90X=New Testament 90 Days...
--one for the student ministry which will be a tshirt design as well.

My goal for the summer is to get into the darkroom and produce some more photography.

But, needless to say its going to be a designing kinda summer!

Cover Idea

ok so I'm mainly doing this tutorial for the use of the skull. It wont have all the fluttery hearts behind it and i want the title of my magazine kinda coming out of his mouth. The name of my magazine is Inspiration and the sub line is " Imagination is more important than knowledge." So then my idea is to have objects coming out of the skull...objects that are representational of what material is in my magazine and objects that represent a vivid imagination.

Tutorial/Prism Cover Idea

so here is my cover idea for prism...rough up. my idea is to have inside the word prism the names of the authors that will be published throughout the magazine. For now just to get the idea across i have famous authors inside. Since the students are having their work published in the prism i thought it would be a cool spinoff to have the authors "in the prism" and i haven't added it yet but there will be letters falling off prism towards the typewriter.

Stop the Bleeding, Rescue is Possible!

For my Advanced Graphic Design Class we were assigned a project in which we had to pick a social justice to portray. Right away I knew I wanted to reflect my ideas on Depression and an amazing organization, "To Write Love On Her Arms" www.twloha.com I've personally seen how depression can affect a person and i felt that it was important to portray the reality of this disease and that its not just a person being sad and getting over it. I've also seen how this organization can help people and i thought it was important to let others know about the organization and possibly be able to help them.

My first poster is titled "Don't let depression paint your heart black" the stance i chose for this poster was a combination of fact and emotion.

My second poster is titled "Stop the Bleeding, Rescue is Possible"
my stance on this poster was shock.

Illustration Project

So this project was all about process, process, process! It started out as us picking a particular object in which i chose one of my necklaces. We then proceeded to draw out 40 sketches of this object using different mediums or layouts,etc. From those 40 sketches we eliminated down to 3 and after we decided on our top 3 we picked out the one we wanted to use for the project. After deciding on the right image we scanned it in and created an illustrator file of our sketch. Along with the sketched version we had to create ones that were painterly, graphic, playful, and sophisticated. My final of these are posted below in the same order.

I think this project was very time consuming due to the detail that was required but it was well worth all the work. It was a good learning process and I think it helped me develop my skill with the tools better. Even though it consumed alot of time I still found it very fun.

So guys i retook my pictures of my idea of having the "story" carved into my back...i picked out certain words from the story and got my mom to write them on my back in a choppy/ slashing type. Still have some revisions to do...i want to add blood into the bathtub and also onto the knife and i want to make the type on my back a little more realistic. So my idea for this assignment is based on the christmas countdown calender that has the chocolates inside the boxes that everyone is familar with.

Except instead of christmas it is a countdown to fall...The images i chose involve events that occur in fall such as: halloween, thanksgiving, nc state fair, festivals, and also are images that are symbolic to fall decorations or fall weather and environment.

so here are a few different versions of a few things i changed from the original...the pictures of the guys i rearranged so they dont appear like a cell phone tower symbol...i attempting to move their name and description under the pictures of them but it was too hard to read their names due to the many differences in each person's shirt. I've also changed the font choice of their name and description to helvetica because its more legible and easier to read. Ive also played around with a few different logo choices...i couldn't find the original font my boyfriend used when he created the logo.

Non-pattern: It is what it says. The opposite of pattern. Elements of design that create rhythm without repeating itself. I took this image at my friend Brandon's house. He has painted a wall in his room with chalkboard paint so that everyone can draw on it and leave him a message and i thought this would be a perfect example of non-pattern.

Movement/Dynamics: Movement that creates visual rhythm. I saw this poster down the hallway at peace and thought it would be perfect for dynamics. The image comes to life and moves throughout the canvas creating visual rhythm.

Movement/Direction- When rhythm is moving in a specific direction. Usually by having a dominant visual path. In this poster there is a dominant visual path in the way that the images are laid out.

Emphasis/Focal point

Contrast- Extreme differences in relation to focal point. Characteristics such as large v/s small or light v/s dark. This is an example of contrast of large v/s small on focal point. I believe that the larger boat draws more emphasis based upon size verses the small boat.

Isolation- isolating an object in its placement helps to create a focal point that attracts the eye. I thought this was a good example of isolation because it not only creates a focal point but it also is a one point perspective which originates with a focal point.

Placement-When elements of design are arranged in such a way that it creates emphasis. In this example the elements are arranged in a way in which you could point to any specific thing and it could be a focal point.

Absence- is when no focal point is needed to attract the eye. I took this image standing over a vase of flowers. I knew in order for there to be no concentrated focal point that i should try to avoid circular or something in the dead center. When i think of an image that represents absence it reminds me of abstractness.

Rhythm

Pattern- elements of design that repeat itself to create rhythm
Non-pattern- answer within itself. Elements of a design that does not repeat but still contains rhythm in the design.
Movement/dynamics- When elements of design create a visual rhythm. When i think of this one i relate it to dance and how the body moves which helps me understand it as an art and design perspective. An image visually moves throughout the canvas and has visual rhythm.
Movement/direction-when an image or design element has movement that creates a dominant visual path.

Balance:

Figure-ground- visual relationship/balance between foreground and background and how each other balance out.

Axial/bilateral- unchanged when rotated along a line of axis.

Radial- arranged symmetrically along a central axis.

Asymmetry- lack of balance. If divided in a straight line the two halves are not a mirror image/reflection. Scale/Proportion:

Human reference- person and image in relation to proportion. A person or body part is used to compare the scale of the object. A foot compared to a table.

Context-surroundings that effect the image in the space that it occupies. All the copiers and odds and ends in this picture occupy the space and makes the room appear smaller.

Internal(object to picture plane)-picture within a picture. Pillows within sofa (picture to picture)
